about me

I didn't know what I was going to be when I grew up. I was not a kid that picked up a camera and knew that it was exactly what I wanted to do. When I was younger I played softball and soccer, I tried horseback riding and I took french. I was experimental.

What I did stick with, however, was art classes. My need to try new things was fed by playing with new mediums and different types of styles. I adored oils and watercolour and inks, and I loved testing myself with a new concept or a subject I'd never even attempted to draw before.

Even after 10 years of painting and drawing and loving art in general, I still knew it wouldn't be something I wanted to make a career. I went to NSCC with still only a vague idea in mind.. at first I thought I wanted to be a designer! It wasn't until a few weeks into my first year in college that I knew photography was where I wanted to focus, and it has been amazing so far.

I love that with photography I get to continue trying new things. I get to meet new people and collaborate with other creatives. I love that I love my job, and I want you to know that it will show through when I'm in a shoot. I can't imagine being anything else. I'm so thankful that my job is to create trust between myself and the people that I work with, and so happy that those people are just as excited to be there.

So now you know where I came from, but who am I?

I'm a 21 year old artist. I have blue hair and tattoos scattered across my body. I'm friendly and outgoing, and travelling is my favourite thing to do. I spend any time I'm not making photos watching re-runs of FRIENDS, I'm obsessed with my cat, I drink more coffee than water, and I hope to be your future photographer.

My name is Rachel McGrath and I'm a portrait photographer born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I am in love with our beautiful little province and all the natural beauty it has, which is why I adore photographing my clients on location and enjoy making my days little adventures. I utilize skills learned during my time studying photography at the Nova Scotia Community College to create the most unique images possible during each shoot.

I'm a coffee, tattoo and cat enthusiast, I like hiking, fresh air and the coast line. I'm always planning my next travel destination and dreaming of all the places I've yet to visit. I'm constantly overwhelmed by this big, wide world.

If you think we'd be a good fit, I'd love to hear from you!
