My favourite part of my job is getting to work with new people all the time. I'm constantly meeting other creatives or people that want to make awesome work just as much as I do. Last week I met two new faces, Clayton and Miah.
Clayton is a model signed with the agency City Models, and Miah is an awesome makeup artist in the Halifax area. It was a pleasure to meet and work with the both of them! Together with Clayton, Miah and I pulled together 2 concepts that turned out super cool.
Both looks we chose to shoot in a studio setting, which is odd for me, because if you've browsed my website at all before coming to my blog you know that I specialize in location lighting and environmental portraiture! It was nice to have a change in pace and shoot inside and really think about the lighting instead of what was going on around the people. When I was in school I wasn't in love with shooting studio because I knew there was more interesting or more fitting settings out in the real world, but it's nice to come back to a simple set-up and focus on the portrait and the makeup that Miah did so well on!
Our first idea was to use a flower crown that Clayton made by hand for this shoot! He's such a natural in front of the camera, so it was great to be able to play with lighting and different types of mood while keeping everyone comfortable and things running smoothly.
The second one was to have Miah utilize gold pigment and gloss to make it look like Clayton was basically just spitting out gold and letting it run wherever. We made these realllllly moody and a little darker than I usually shoot, so it was a fun experiment!
All in all, I'm really happy with how these turned out, and I hope you enjoy them as well!
