Setting the Mood
I spend a lot of time that I'm not creating photos, editing photos, (or the rest of the business that comes with being a photographer) looking for inspiration for personal work. I have an entire section on instagram saved and dedicated to multiple types of photographs, and many pinterest boards of ideas for future shoots.
As we all know, January to March tends to be a very cloudy time in Nova Scotia, which makes it perfect to create dark and moody images! I've been a little bit all over the place recently with my style of editing and shooting, but I kind of love it. Usually my images have lots of contrast between colours and the subject to the background. They're typically brighter and punchy, which is what made shooting something kind of the opposite such a fun challenge.
I put out a call to find a model that had a flowy dress or outfit that would be able to bring these images to life, and found Kait.
Kait has a background in theatre, but is also extremely talented with a hula hoop! She's such a performer, and I think that's what made this shoot easy to be comfortable in, despite looking different than all the other work I seem to find myself doing.
I hope you enjoy!
